HARMONY IN HALLS CREEK Mat de Koning (Cam) Jo Randell (Prod)
The Documentary of Madjitil Moorna’s 2009 Halls Creek tour and concerts has been nominated for the WA Screen Awards. It runs for 24 minutes and it tells the story of the choir’s project in Halls creek in May 2009.
It’s a story that needs to be told. Community Screenings took place in Halls Creek before Christmas 2009; the people loved it because it showed a different side of their town to the impressions formed by watching news reports.
Screening: Thursday 18 February 2010 Fremantle (tickets on line $5.00) http://www.fti.asn.au/watch/screening/347
Harmony in Halls Creek was wonderfully received. Ours was the last one of the night, going till 10.25 so lots of people had left. Voting was done by SMS in just 10 mins following the final film.
The People’s Choice winner will be announced as part of the Awards Night 6 March. Tickets: call BOCS. $65 and $55 concession.
The award we’re shooting for is BEST DOCUMENTARY.
Some lovely comments after….. Mat’s ma said she cried all the way through it cos she’s so proud of Mat and of us too.
My sister – who saw the fuller first cut was intrigued at how well the story is told in spite of being chopped to half the length. Clever Mat de Koning!!
Got my outfit today!!
After years of joking about “acceptance speeches” at Zig Zag events, here you are contemplating writing one! Have you got shoes? and what plans for the hair-do?
This is another exceptional success for the choir and for Mat de Koning. The message gets out further each time it’s played, the choir’s magic spreads to more people. Well done!
Well, on the night, it was not to be Mat de Koning and Harmony in Halls Creek. The Best Documentary went to My Nan and the Yandi Produced by Jennifer Gherardi, Directed by Denise Groves – filmmakers that were known to Karl and George in the Choir.
But well done Mat and Jo and Madjitil Moorna for getting nominated and for getting it out there.
There is another screening of the documentary with performances by the Choir on Saturday 27 March Judith Cottier Theatre, Perth College, Mt Lawley -7pm for 8
